Char Dham 2014: Char Dam Yatra Opening and Closing Dates. The Holy Shrines of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath.

Char Dham, the four sacred Hindu Pilgrimage places nestled in Garhwal Himalayas, India. YAMUNOTRI, GANGOTRI, Sri KEDARNATH and Sri BADRINATH are the four holy places which are located in the state of Uttarakand(Uttaranchal), India.

The CharDham Yatra begins with the darshan of Shrine of Yamunotri and finally ends with the darshan of Badrinarayan in Badrinath Temple. This holy yatra is undertaken from the west to the east(clockwise direction) in a manner followed for circumbulation in Hindu Temples.


The Char Dam (the four holy shrines) remains open for a period of 6 months only in a year from April/May to October/November for darshan and remains close from October/November to April/May due to winter snow.

CharDham Yatra 2014 Starting & Ending Dates:

It is an ongoing tradition following in this holy region that the temples of Gangotri and Yamunotri open every year on the day of Akshaya Tritiya. According to the Hindu Calendar this auspicious day falls on Vaishaka Suddha Trutiya(April/May) in every year. This year 2014, the temples open on  May 2, 2014(Friday). 
The Kedarnath Temple opens on May 4, 2014(Sunday) at 6:00am and 
the Badrinath temple opens on May 5, 2014(Monday) at 4:05am. 

Char Dham Temples Closing Dates 2014: 
  • The temples of Yamunotri and Gangotri open every year on the day of Deepavali(Festival of Lights). This year 2014, the holy shrines will be closed on October 23, 2014(Thursday)
  • The temple of Kedarnath closes on October 25, 2014(Saturday) and
  • The temple of Badrinath will be closed on October 26, 2014(Sunday)
