Varanasi, the temple city is the abode of Sri Kashi Viswanatha(Lord Shiva in the form Jyothi Linga). The Kashi Temple is in the south east of Uttarpradesh, India on the banks of the eternal river Ganga which is "Uttara Vahini" here. The main deity of the temple is known as Viswanatha or Vishweswara meaning as "Ruler of the Universe" It is believed that the Varanasi is the place where the First Jyothirlinga, the fiery pillar of light by which Shiva manifested his supremacy power over other Gods.
The important festivals of the temple are Maha Shivaratri, Sravana Masam, Aksya Tritiya, Makara Shankranti and Rangbhari Ekadasi.
