Arasavalli Temple is the abode of Sri Surya Narayana Swamy(also known as Sun God). The temple is located at a distance of 1KM of east of Srikakulam Town, AndhraPradesh, India. It is one of the few Sun God temples in India. It is believed that Eye and Skin diseases are cured if people have darshan of Sri Suryanarayana Swamy of this temple.
The main festival of the temple is Ratha Saptami(the day of Sun Gods Birthday). This year 2013 the festival will be celebrated on February 17, 2013 in a grand manner.
The miracle of the temple is that "the rays of the Sun touch the feet of the Presiding Deity(Mula Virat) in the Garbha Griha of the Main Temple". This great miracle takes place twice a year in the month of March and October in the early morning of the day.
History of the Sri Suryanarayana Swamy Temple, Arasavalli Village:
The legend says Demigod "DEVENDRA" installed the presiding deity of the temple. The epigraphical records of the temple mentioned that the temple was constructed by Sri Kalinga Devandra Varma in the 7th century. Arasavalli village is formely known as Harshavalli.
Arasavalli Temple Architecture:
Sri Suryanarayana Swamy(Sun God) temple was completely built in the Odisha(Orissa) style of Temple Architecture.The temple was constructed in a such way that the Sun rays fall on the feet of the Main Deity through the Five entrance gates of the temple. Like wise, in kanchipuram also, the Sun rays touch the feet of Goddess Kamakshi in the Garbha Griha of the Kameshawari Temple.
In this temple, five Idols 1)Aditya, 2)Ambica, 3)Lord Vishnu, 4)Lord Ganesha and 5)Maheswara installed in one place in the temple.
Significance of Sun's God Chariot:
The Sun God is depicted as riding on a Chariot drawn by Seven Horses(named as Gayatri, Brhati, Usnik, Jagati, Tristup, Anustup and Pankti)[all the seven horses signify seven colours of the VIBGYOR].
